POWER ON ICE 2012 - Finland
Seemingly endless forests covered in snow and ice, the vast white landscape alternating with mountains, picturesque frozen lakes in clearings, crystal clear and biting cold air turning each breath into small white clouds, tracks of wild animals in the snow, utterly quiet except the sound of the snow crunching beneath your shoes.
The Lapland programme is located near Kuusamo, in the north-eastern corner of the province of Oulo, Finland. Just 60km south of the arctic circle and 40km west of the Russian border. This is home to Ruka, an area that has developed into an exclusive skiing resort around the Rukatunturi fell. Apart from the un-spoilt hilly countryside within the Ruka area, visitors to this area can also look forward to such perfect moments as the sighting of a reindeer or elk wandering through the woods.
The seasonal auroras found at this latitude continue to amaze even the most experienced - visitors and locals alike.
Just below the summit of Rukatunturi is the luxury hotel Ruka Peak, poised on the side of the mountain and overlooking the surrounding lakes and hills. All its spacious bedrooms have their own south-facing balcony offering breathtaking views. It is here that we will dine in front of the roaring open fire, and our guests can enjoy a cold beer in a hot tub, a Finnish smoke sauna or a traditional sauna after an exhausting days driving. As well as the main hotel itself, we have also booked neighbouring luxury Ruka Peak cottages and apartments built in traditional Scandinavian style, which are available to those Bentley Driving participants seeking the added luxury of more privacy and space, or wishing to share space as a family or friends.
